I work for a small role-playing game company, and one of the things that we are looking at for the future is releasing products in eBook format.
After looking at the various different eBook readers available, and soon to be available, along with the formats that each reader can read/view, we eventually came to the decision that the epub format was likely to be the best format to use.
The Kindle is the only ereader on the market that cannot read the epub format, but that isn’t much of an obstacle as there is an application called Calibre that can be used to convert eBooks from one format to another, including converting an epub to a format that the Kindle can read.
The company I work for is quite likely going to be producing eBooks in the epub format as we move forward with new products. Personally, I think it is exciting!

The main reason that I haven’t bought a Kindle yet is because it doesn’t support epub natively. I’ve done some comparisons between the different ebook readers and I keep coming back to the Kindle as the one I’d like to get. I’ll have to check out that Calibre application and see if it will solve the problem

Why not go with the Nook then? That is what I ended up getting, and I am enjoying the hell out of it.
Plus, there is a site that gives you what you need to hack the nook, making it more usable (of course, this voids warranty), allowing you to install other apps.
Plus the nook has a replacable battery, something the Kindle doesn’t have.
Although, if I remember correctly, you are in Canada, and that may limit purchase options for products for you.
