Signature Moves

In one of the issues of Express Additions, I offered an option that did away with the need for having Power Point Multipliers. This option traded the multiplier giving a lot of PP, that once used, were gone for the day for a smaller number that regenerated much more quickly

Then in Combat Companion, we introduced combat styles, and one of the features of these styles is that they are built with specific moves.

Then, earlier today, it hit me — Why not combine the Power Point idea with the specific maneuvers, and create quasi-magical Signature Moves for the styles.

What is a Signature Move?

Basically, a Signature Move is a type of attack. It is a technique in which the character is able to do something special, like turn he sword in a firebrand (flaming blade), or have his mac do electrical crits, or allow him to fire arrows made of energy from his bow that do impact crits, or any one of a number of different possible abilities.

In all cases, the ability would be tied to a specific style, and a style would only be allowed a single Signature Move (hence the name).

Acquiring a Signature Move

As I said before, each style would be allowed one Signature Move. THe Signature Move would also come with a Development Point (DP) cost that would have to be paid in order for the Signature Move to be used. This DP cost could then be paid all at once or over the course of several levels.

The acquisition of a Singature Move would not change the cost of the Style, not like Specific Maneuvers. Nor would a style be allowed to add the Signature Move of another style.

Using a Signature Move

Everybody has Power Points, especially if using the “Base Power Point” option from Spell Law. The Signature Moves would cost Power Points to use. The actual PP cost would be determined by the specific ability.

With the Fast Power Point Regen option mentioned abve, this would allow for the abilities to be used multiple times per day, depending upon how active the character is.

There is still a lot more of development to be done on this idea, but I figured that I would throw it out here for comment.
